The
Sarnia Jr. Sting
Minor Atom MD's
travelled to the
Carling Arena Monday
night to face the
first place North
London Nationals.
Sarnia was anxious
for a win as they
had lost their two
previous league
games.
The pace was quick
and fast at the
opening puck drop
with solid chances
on both sides of the
rink. Strong
goaltending and
defense prevailed in
the first period
with no team
scoring. There was
no scoring in the
second period,
however lots of end
to end action.
At the 14th minute
of the third period,
North London opened
the scoring when
their forward found
himself alone in
front of the Sting
net and wristed a
shot past a
sprawling Ian Stouth.
Sarnia would
continue pressuring
and eventually even
the match when
winger Kurtis
Allardyce skated in
alone on a breakaway
and fired the
perfect wrist
shot passed the
National goalie. Two
minutes later London
would regain their
lead when they
entered the Sarnia
zone with a 3 on 1
break and finished
with a wrist shot
into the top corner
of the Sting
goal. The goal
would not suppress
the Jr. Sting's
spirits as the team
continued to play
hard. At the 6
minute mark of the
third, Sting
center Jacob Gould
would send a shot on
net from above the
face-off circle
which deflected
three times as the
puck found its way
behind a surprised
North London goalie.
As in many sports,
sometimes teams need
a little luck. Lady
Luck shined on the
Jr. Sting as they
salvaged a point in
North London. Final
score : Sarnia Jr.
Sting Minor Atoms 2
- North London
Nationals 2 .
