Inferno finish perfect season with Atom Championship victory
andrew brethauer November 5th, 2011

Sarnia, ON - Another year came to a close on SMAA football and the Atom Championship would be the first to be decided.

Atom Final - Inferno vs Iron Hides

The Atom final featured the top team teams in that division, as the Iron Hides looked to upset the undefeated Inferno. But the Inferno offence would come out quickly in the first half, as Ethan Kirby would pick up the first six points in the game with a 20 yard run. Corbin Atkinson would add the extra two points on the convert kick, his first of five four made on six attempts.

After a stop on the Iron Hides, the Inferno would pick up their second score of the game, as Hudson Laur would break for a 25 yard run to put up another six points. After another convert the Inferno would lead 16-0.

The Iron Hide offence would get movement down the field and threaten to score with the ball on the 2 yard line. Avery Smiley would get it in from two yards out, with Will McArthur adding the extra two points for the convert, cutting the lead in half 16-8.

But just before half time, the Inferno would replenish their two score lead, as Kirby would break multiple tackles on his way to his second touchdown of the day, and a 24-8 lead at the half.

In the second half, the Inferno offence would continue to be a force, as Justin Cain would break for a quarterback sneak and score an addition six points, with Atkinson adding the convert for a 32-8 lead. Joshua Gibson would help the Inferno on defence, forcing a fumble on a sack, giving the Inferno excellent field position in which Justin Cain would finish off with another touchdown run for a 38-8 lead.

The Iron Hides offence could not break through to get closer, and after a long 40 yard Hudson Laur touchdown, the Inferno would finish the game with a 44-8 victory.
