Sarnia, ON -
The SCITS Blue Bombers and North Lambton Eagles
combined for seven goals in the first period of
Wednesday afternoon's LSSAA girls hockey, but the
game ended in a 4-4 tie after a late third period
goal.
SCITS
opened the scoring in the first period, as Emily
Williams pick up her first of the period for the
Bombers 1-0 lead. Karley Campbell would respond two
minutes later for the Eagles, tying the game at 1-1.
The Eagles would then take the lead as Alli Nickles
scored the go ahead goal.
But the
lead wouldn't last long, as Makenna Harrison
scored for the Bombers to tie the game back at 2-2.
North Lambton would retake the lead as Amy McIntyre
would score for the Eagles.
But SCITS
would come right back and Williams would pick up her
second of the period, streaking down on the ring and
putting a shot on net that Eagles goalie Karley
Ferguson would get a piece of, but it would still
find the back of the net. SCITS would get the go
ahead goal moments later, as Becca Neely put a shot
on net from the point, and would pick up her own
rebound, giving SCITS the 4-3 lead after the first.
Neither
team could score in the second period despite North
Lambton's Karley Campbell having multiple break away
chances, and the Eagles had a 5 on 3 power play that
they could not score on.
In the
third, with the Eagles pressing for the tying goal,
Campbell would finally get her second goal passed
Bombers goalie Brianne Belanger with just over a
minute left in the game.
Both teams
would have scoring chances in the final minute, but
would have to settle for the 4-4 tie.
Campbell
ended the game with four points, two goals and two
assists for North Lambton.
"We were a
little bit short with 8 players. It would have been
nice to have some of the other ones out," said
Eagles coach Cody Perriam.
Both teams
start the season 0-1-1. SCITS will next take on St.
Chris on Wednesday, December 7th at Sarnia Arena,
while the Eagles will host St. Chris before that
game on Monday, December 5th at The Shores Arena.
