Sarnia, ON
- The Sarnia Legionnaires pushed their winning
streak to 11 games, after a dominating 8-2
performance over the St. Marys Lincolns Thursday
night in Junior B hockey action at the Sarnia Arena.
"That was
a good effort," said head coach Dan Rose. "I think
our depth really showed tonight."
With eight
goals from seven different players, the
Legionnaires, who are battling some injuries, got
top performances from Derek D'Andrea who scored
twice and had an assist, and Justice Dundas who had
four assists as part of the Legionnaires top line
with Jason Teschke and Jesse Drydak.

In all,
eight different players had two or more points
Thursday, as Sarnia had a three goal opening period
and a four goal second period before a penalty
filled third period.
Jeff
Paulley opened the scoring on the powerplay, as a
low wrist shot would get through the pads of Craig
Wood. St. Marys would tie it up quickly as Bryan
McCauley would sneak in front of the goal and put a
pass coming from behind the net passed Kyle Washer
to tie the game.
But over
the course of the next 30 minutes of playing time,
the Legionnaires would tally six goals. Derek
D'Andrea would score back to back goals, being left
both times alone in front and putting his shot by
Wood, as Sarnia left the first period with a 3-1
lead.
In the
second, Jason Teschke would score the third goal for
Sarnia, picking up a fanned Steve Farlow shot and
putting it by an already committed and downed goalie
for a 4-1 lead.
Farlow
would later get his goal, putting a wrist shot from
atop the circle into the top corner of the net.
Fifteen seconds later Brent Sauve would get a
fortunate bounce off his leg to count for the third
goal of the period, and Evan Dixon would end the six
goal scoring streak with a short handed goal,
working the give and go with Dundas to put Sarnia up
7-1.

McCauley
would tally his second goal of the night before the
end of the second period, but Jesse Drydak would
score a powerplay goal in the third to end the
scoring on the night, as Sarnia takes it 8-2.
But
despite their 11th straight victory, the
Legionnaires are always looking towards the next
game, and what is coming rather then dwelling and
reliving what good is happening now with the team.
"We just
talk about playing good sound fundamental hockey,"
said Rose. "We don't cheat out there at all and we
compete hard shift in and shift out. We want a team
identity and you develop that by doing the right
things all the time. We will put this game behind us
and the next game is the battle we want to win."
Sarnia's
powerplay went 2 for 5 on the night and Rose is
still making adjustments to the powerplay, coming
out with man different types of units. The penalty
kill also was perfect, stopping all chances on eight
powerplays the Lincolns had. Kyle Washer made 32
saves for his ninth win of the season.
Sarnia is
now 12-4-0 on the season, and sits in third with 24
points, tie with St. Marys. But with only 16 games
player, the Legionnaires still need to make up four
games Leamington and three on London who both have
25 points but have played 20 and 19 games
respectfully. Sarnia will head to Chatham on Sunday
before returning home next Thursday for the third
meeting against Lambton Shores.
