Sarnia, ON -
It was special teams on Thursday night at the
Sarnia Arena, as nine of 11 goals scored were
produced while on a powerplay. But the Sarnia
Legionnaires would be on the wrong end of it, as
they drop their second game in a row to the London
Nationals, but picked up a single point with a 6-5
overtime loss.
Sarnia
started the game with a 5 on 3 powerplay, and it
didn't take long for the Legionnaires to find the
back of the net, as they moved puck around and
finally onto the stick of Jesse Drydak who scored in
the slot for a 1-0 lead.
Sarnia
would then go on the 5 on 3 penalty kill, and killed
off one of the penalties before they would catch the
Nationals, and Brent Sauve would find Drydak for his
second of the game for the 2-0 lead. London though
would still produce on the powerplay, as Daniel
Cameron would pick up a rebound and back hand it on
net into a crowd and score to cut the lead in half.
The
Legionnaires would again go on the penalty kill, and
like before, catch the Nationals whose defence had
tripped, and Nathan Mater would come in and put a
shot behind Taylor Edwards for the 3-1 lead.
London
would respond like before, quickly after, as Cameron
would pick up his second of the game with a low shot
that beat Kyle Washer. The Nationals would get out
of the period with a tie, as Scott Lombardi would
put a shot on net that would go in off Washer, again
on the powerplay, as the game heads out of the first
3-3.
The second
period would be delayed, as power to the Sarnia
Arena went out, delaying the start of the second
period for over 30
minutes. When play did resume in the second, neither
team could find the back of the net.
In the
third period, Cameron would again make the
Legionnaires pay on the powerplay, scoring his third
powerplay goal of the night two minutes into the
period for the Nationals first lead of the game.
Mooretown
Flags call up Jeff Schroeter would tie it back up
two minutes later for his second as a Legionnaire, but
London would again retake the lead as Jonathon Sims
would put the Nationals ahead 5-4. Both goals were
even strength, the only two in the entire game. But
not to be out done, Jesse Drydak would complete his
hat-trick on the night, scoring on the powerplay,
sending the game into overtime.
In
overtime, the powerplay would again hurt the
Legionnaires, as Aaron Dartch would end the game
2:50 into overtime, giving London their second win
in two nights over the Legionnaires.
Kyle
Washer made 28 saves in the loss.
Sarnia
will continue their busy week, hosting Leamington on
Saturday, before heading to Chatham on Sunday.
