Brett Thompson scored a hat-trick in only his 6th
game as a member of the Sarnia Sting as part of a
6-3 victory for the Sting over the Saginaw Spirit
Friday night, the first between the teams over the
weekend, as action returns back to Saginaw on
Saturday for the second game.
Thompson
has nine goals on the season, scoring the Sting's
second goal of the game for his first of the net, to
tie the game at 2-2. Saginaw had the early lead
scoring on the powerplay, as Michael Fine scored
4:05 into the first period to make it a 1-0 game.
But the
Sting would reply on the powerplay as well, as Nail
Yakupov got his 15th of the season. The Spirit would
again take the lead in the first with another
powerplay goal, as Fine would add his second of the
game for the 2-1 Spirit lead after the first period.
Thompson's only goal in the second period would
square the game at 2-2 on the powerplay heading into
the third.
The
powerplay goals would continue as Reid Boucher would
get his 13th of the season and give the Sting their
first lead of the game. Yakupov would follow it up
with another powerplay goal, and his 16th, giving
Sarnia a 4-2 lead.
After
Thompson scored his second goal to make it a three
goal lead, Josh Shalla would put it back to a two
goal game a minute later. But Thompson would reply
again with his third of the night, as the Sting go
on to the 6-3 victory.
Six
powerplay goals were score in a row, as Sarnia went
4 for 7 on the powerplay, while the Spirit went 2
for 5.
Charles
Sarault would lead all Sting players with points,
picking up four assists, while Taylor Carnevale
would pick up three assists for a multi-point game.
Brandon
Maxwell got the start for the Sting, making 19 saves
for his12th victory of the season.
