Sarnia, ON -
Ashley Bisson made the biggest free throw of her
life with 3 tenths of a second remaining in the game
as the St. Clair Colts Senior Girls Basketball team
came away with a 40-39 victory over Tecumseh St.
Anne’s in the SWOSSAA AAAA Finals Wednesday night at
St. Clair.
With the
win, the Colts qualified for the OFSAA Championships
to be played in Windsor, November 24-26.
The Colts
survived at thrilling 71-68 double overtime semi
final against Chatham on Tuesday and were heavy
underdogs against St. Anne. St. Anne’s tied the game
at 39 late in the 4th quarter and actually had a
shot that could have won the game. Bisson was fouled
on the rebound and sent to the line for the winning
free throw. The Colts stifling defence held the high
powered St. Anne’s offence down all night. The
defence on the boards was huge and was led by Sam
Kaldaway, Lexi Hanly and Karly Adair.
Alex
Hodgins led the Colts with 16 points, Jessica Drury
added 10 and Bisson had 7. Hodgins, Drury and Bisson
combined for 7 three pointers.
