Point Edward novice win twice
Submitted to Sarniasports.com November 13th, 2011

November 5th, 2011 - Facing the Mount Brydges Blue for the first time this season, the Blackhawks were chomping at the bit to prove themselves.

In the 1st period, both teams seemed to be evenly matched, with no score, until 1:22 left in the period the Blackhawks took the lead.

The 2nd period started with a 1-0 lead. Mount Brydges didn’t seem to be phased and kept coming at the Blackhawks with the same energy as in the 1st period. It wasn’t until half-way through the 2nd period that the Blackhawks decided to step it up a notch and fired in 5 unanswered goals, which seemed to take some of the wind out of the Mount Brydges sails.

The 3rd period started out like the 2nd, with Mount Brydges looking refreshed. Less than 3 mins. in and the Blackhawks were going to be playing short-handed. The team stepped up and held the attackers at bay, not giving up an inch. As the play went back and forth, the Blackhawks were able to find the back of the net 2 more times before receiving another penalty (with only 2:33 left on the clock). This time, being short-handed didn’t stop them from going on the offence with the final goal coming in with 1:17 left in the game.

Final Score – Point Edward Blackhawks win 9-0

The “Performance Player of the Game” Award went to the goaltender, John Cannon, who set up a brick wall and wouldn’t let anyone through.

November 6th, 2011 – The Blackhawks head to Thedford for a rematch against Lambton Shores Black, who would be looking for some retribution.

The 1st period, it was clear that Lambton Shores was not going to go down without a fight. The two teams seemed evenly matched this time and the play was so intense that both teams ended up testing each other`s ability to defend while shorthanded, but the Blackhawks were able to capitalize on the power play and squeak one by the Lambton Shores goaltender.

The 2nd period started with Lambton Shores getting even, putting the game at a 1-1 stalemate and both goaltenders were determined that it would stay that way. Both teams might as well have been shooting at brick walls because these two goalies were on fire and it didn`t look like either one was about to give.

In the 3rd period the Blackhawks learned that if you keep hammering on a brick wall, eventually it`s going to break, and with just over 5 mins. left in the game the Blackhawks found a crack and didn`t let up for a second, putting 3 more quick goals up on the board. With a little over 2 mins. left, the Blackhawks ended up short handed again, but didn`t stop attacking and they were able to sneak the puck in one last time.

Final Score – Point Edward Blackhawks win 5-1

The “Performance Player of the Game” Award went to Josh Davis for demonstrating solid forechecking and backchecking.
