The Lambton Minor Atom AAA Sting dropped a pair of games over the weekend against two of the strongest teams in the league. On Saturday at home the Sting learned if you let the other team outwork you it will be a long day. In this case that is exactly what happened as the Sting fell 7-1 to the Waterloo Wolves. Josh McLean scored Lambton's only goal in the contest.
Sunday the boys made the trip down the 402 to face the London Jr Knights. The Sting came out flying early in the game and skated with the Knights. London scored first but Lambton continued to press and Dylan Riddell was rewarded for his hustle with a penalty shot. He made a great move on the London goalie but was robbed on his attempt to slide the puck in the open corner. From there the referees took over and the Sting were whistled for a pair of penalties just 30 seconds apart. Lambton did a great job killing off the the 5 on 3 but with 9 seconds left in the second penalty London scored to make it 2-0.
Another Knights powerplay marker early in the second period took the wind out Lambton and from there the game was all London. The final score was 8-0 and it was easy to see why the Knights remain the only unbeaten team in the league.
The Sting are off to Kitchener next weekend for their second tournament of the season. Opponents will include Waterloo, Detroit Little Ceasars , Guelph and St Catherines.
