The Point Edward Blackhawks Novice team faced stiff opposition from Lambton Shores Black Predators, playing a home and away series. They were able to explode for 4 unanswered goals in the third period to take the first game but, after being stung by the powerplay, had to be content with a 3-3 draw in the second game.
The first game remained scoreless through two periods. On a delayed penalty call, centre Shaun McDermott was able to capitalize on a nice assist for Jaxon Lucas at 11:40 in the third. At 10:15, Cameron Lacroix made a great move in his own end, and weaved through several defenders to get an unassisted goal. Ethan Pereira was able to score another at 5:38, assisted by Cameron Lacroix and Sullivan MacDougall. Finishing off the scoring, Shaun McDermott took another pass from Jaxon Lucas at 1:15 to make the final score 4-0. Luke Crombeen was able to notch his 4th straight shutout, being tested by the opposing sharp-shooters.
In the second game of the weekend, Point Edward was penalized late in the first period and the Predators scored a short-handed goal to start off the second period. Cameron Lacroix answered 47 seconds later to make the score 1-1. Late in the second period, the Point was unable to score on a powerplay opportunity. Early in the third, Ryder Nienhuis put the Blackhawks up 2-1 on another unassisted goal and Ethan Pereira scored another (assisted by Cole Whitworth). The Predators stormed back in the third with a goal at 4:32. After the Point were given a second penalty for tripping, the Predators were able to score the equalizer on the ensuing power play.
As a team, the Blackhawks are showing good balance with every player having at least 1 point over the first 7 games! Luke Crombeen has a very impressive 1.14 GAA.
