In their second away game in less
than a week, the Point Edward Atom Blackhawks
travelled to Lucan and the Fighting Irish broke the
Hawks unbeaten streak to hand them a 4-3 loss in a
hard fought battle.
The first half of the initial
period saw Lucan very aggressive towards the Point
net but the Hawks defense weren’t giving them any
good scoring opportunities. Past the mid-way point
of the period, Matt Laframboise stick-handled the
puck out of the Hawks zone and past to an opened
Nolan Gladwish who broke away and gave the Point a
1-0 lead. The Hawks weren’t able to keep the lead as
seconds later Lucan countered off a rebound that
went over the Point net-minder’s stick. Before the
period ended, Lucan took a 2-1 lead when the Point
allowed them to take the puck from a face-off in the
Lucan end all the way to the Point zone to score.
The Point continued their
disciplined play and dug hard for the puck and it
paid off when Gladwish shot the puck at the net and
Waun got the rebound to tie the game at 2-2. Both
teams were evenly matched as shown by their play
from the first half of the game which made for some
great hockey. Lucan would take the lead when the
Hawks couldn’t clear the zone against an aggressive
Fighting Irish team who regained the lead. Hawks
missed a close opportunity when Robson shot on net
but Waun couldn’t get his second of the period as it
went wide to keep the game at 3-2 going into the
third.
Early in the third period, Lucan
pressured and extended their lead to 4-2 off a
tipped shot past a screened Point goalie. The Hawks
continued to work hard but couldn’t get a break
until the mid-point of the period when Gladwish was
allowed to stickhandle around the Lucan defense to
make it a close 4-3 game. The Hawks pushed hard for
the tie but couldn’t capitalize on any rebounds and
took their first loss of the season.
Reinders and MacDonald play
awesome in net to keep the game close.
