Legionnaires in
Tough Against Pirates

The
Sarnia Legionnaires lost a nasty, fight-filled
contest last night.
The Port Colborne Pirates crushed the Legion crew
9-4 before 1,200 fans at the Brock Street Barn.
There were four fights, including one involving
former Legionnaire Tanner Garrick of the Pirates and
Sarnia's Andy Sokol.
Other Legionnaires involved in the fisticuffs
included Jeff Paulley, Josh Chapman and Tanner
Tomlinson. The Sarnians ended up on top in three of
the four brawls but, in truth, no one appeared to
have scored a knockout.
If anything, the battles hurt the home team more
than the visitors. That's because after Paulley and
Chapman were tossed, the Legionnaires were down to
just one regular rearguard in the person of rookie
Thomas Moxley. Veteran defencemen Tanner Tomlinson
and Steve Farlow were absent, one due to injury and
the other to illness. And rookie blueliner Jordan
McBeath was a healthy scratch.
As has been the case for weeks now, forwards filled
in on the back end, with no less than three of them
employed that way in the third period.
Needless to say, Sarnia had all kinds of trouble
getting out of its own end.
The Legionnaires also took way too many penalties
for a team serious about winning.
The Pirates, who play in the Golden Hrseshoe Hockey
Conference, led 3-1 after the first period and 7-1
at the conclusion of the second frame.
Jesse Drydak, Chase Clark, Owen Rogers and Tyler
Cicchini scored for the Legionnaires.
Legionnaire notes:
Shawn Waldie had three assists and Cicchini had two.
Single helpers went to Moxley, Drydak and Ilya
Arkalov. Arkalov now has three points in three games
since joining the club.
Mike Reed started the game and took the loss after
giving up six goals. Kyle Washer took over late in
the second period, allowing three goals but managing
to stop a penalty shot.
Overall, the Legionnaires were outshot 45-33.
Cicchini was not sporting the captain's 'C,' but
only because he was wearing a new jersey and there
was no time to sew it on.
Clark's goal was the 50th of his junior career.
