ANDREW BRETHAUER  November 14th, 2010

The Senior Girls LSSAA Basketball finals were Saturday night at St. Christopher’s high school, as the Northern Vikings would defeat the St. Clair Colts 51-31 to cap off their undefeated season.

Amanda Orr would get the Vikings on the board first, as well as add a three pointer, as the Vikings would open the game with 9-0 lead before the Colts could get on the board with a single point on a free throw. The Vikings would add two more from Mellissa Dally to increase the lead to 11-1.

Jessica Drury would add the Colts first bucket from the court, sinking a three pointer, and Samantha Kaldeway would add a rebound put back for two to cut the lead to five. Rachel Green would drive the land for a lay up for Northern, while Taryn Bernier would add two more for the Colts on a fast break to end the quarter trailing the Vikings 15-7.

The Colts would make free throws to start the second quarter, and continue with a full court press to try and get back into the game. But the Vikings were able to inbound the ball and move it quickly down the court. Taryn Bernier would score on a jumper, and Lexie Hawly would add two more on a put back off a rebound.

Wendy Margetts would drive the lane for the Vikings, as the Vikings being to control the pace of the game, while the Colts try for the long perimeter shots. Amanda Orr would add another three and Margetts two extra points from free throws to put the Vikings up 26-12 at the half.

The new half did not start well for the Colts, as their shooters went cold, missing the net, hitting the rim and having balls rattle out of the basket. The Colts would not get a basket till Riley Williams put in a free throw for one.

The Vikings would add to their already large lead, getting points from Margetts and Rachel Green. Williams would add two more free throws for the Colts, as St. Clair is not able to score a basket from shooting in the entire third quarter.

With a twenty-two point lead to start the fourth, the Vikings slow down the pace, but still keep the pressure. The Colts would be able to cut into the lead, as Alex Hodgins scores back to back three pointers, to put a quick six points on the board, and Jessica Drury would add a three as well.

The Colts would get within sixteen of the Vikings but the lead was just to much to overcome. The Vikings would extended their lead as Rachel Green would put shots off the glass and make free throws to help put the Vikings back up by twenty. The clocked ran out on the Colts as the Vikings took home the Championship.
