Minor Atom AAA Sting extend streak to 4 games
SARNIASPORTS.COM  November 14th, 2010

The Lambton Minor Atom AAA Sting overcame two very sloppy periods of hockey as they rallied to tie the Brantford 99ers 4-4 on Saturday. Brantford scored 3 times in the first period as nothing seemed to click early for the Sting. After a scoreless second period the Sting finally woke up and played a very strong third period.

The third began with Lambton, after being badly outshot through two, finally getting some pucks to the Brantford cage and the Sting were rewarded when Nolan DeGurse scored an unassisted marker just over a minute into the period. Three minutes later the Sting scored again to make it 3-2 as Hunter Monkhouse lit the lamp with help from Brock Barber and DeGurse. At the midway point of the period the Sting pulled even thanks to a strong solo effort from Spencer Vandenboom on a delayed penalty to Brantford.

Both teams traded a couple of scoring chances as the play opened up but it was Brantford's turn to strike next as the 99ers took a 4-3 lead with just over 3 minutes remaining thanks to a bullet drive that caught the crossbar and went in behind Sting goaltender Liam McCarthy. Rather than give up the Sting turned it up a notch and with 2 minutes left in the game Dylan Riddell deflected a Josh McLean blast past the Brantford goalie to tie the game at 4.

With the 4-4 tie the Sting are unbeaten in 4 games and have earned 7 of a possible 8 points. Next weekend will pose a tough challenge for the Sting as they face Waterloo at home on Saturday before travelling to London Sunday for a game with the Knights.
