ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced the
OHL Performers of the Month for October, 2010.
OHL
Player of the Month – Garrett Wilson, Owen Sound
Attack
Garrett Wilson of the Owen Sound Attack led the OHL
with 14 goals in 12 games played in October and
added 10 assists for 24 points. He produced a
league-best plus-minus rating of plus-15 and
recorded points in 11 games with a league-high
seven-game goal scoring streak. He also recorded
points in 10-straight games in October along with
eight multi-point games. He earned OHL Player of the
Week honours after being named first star of the
game in three straight contests beginning on October
14 when he scored his first hat-trick of the season
in a 6-2 win over the Barrie Colts.
Wilson, a 19-year-old from Elmvale, ON, is playing
in his fourth OHL season and third with the Attack.
Selected in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Entry
Draft by the Florida Panthers, Wilson will also
compete for Team OHL in the 2010 SUBWAY Super Series
on Thursday November 11 in London, ON.

Rookie of the Month – Nail Yakupov, Sarnia Sting
Nail Yakupov of the Sarnia Sting led the OHL in
scoring with 25 points in 13 games in October
scoring 11 goals and 14 assists. He recorded points
in 12 of his 13 games played producing two
seven-game scoring streaks this season including
points in his first seven career OHL games from
September 24 to October 9, and again from October
14-31. He recorded nine multi-point games this
season including a career-best four-point game to
celebrate his 17th birthday on October 6 as first
star of a 5-2 win over the Sault Ste. Marie
Greyhounds where he scored a goal and three assists.
Yakupov, a 17-year-old from Nizhnekamsk, Russia, was
selected second overall by the Sarnia Sting in the
2010 CHL Import Draft. With 27 points in 16 games so
far this season, Yakupov is not eligible for the NHL
Entry Draft until 2012.

Defenceman of the Month – Ryan Murphy, Kitchener
Rangers
Ryan Murphy of the Kitchener Rangers led all OHL
defencemen in October scoring with 18 points in 12
games scoring seven goals and 11 assists with a
plus-minus rating of plus-3 and just two penalty
minutes. He produced five multi-point games in
October after earning just three in 62 games as a
rookie last season. He opened the month with his
first career five-point game on October 1 against
the Erie Otters where he was named first star with a
goal and four assists in the 7-3 win. One week later
on October 8 he produced a four-point game with a
goal and three assists as second star of a 7-5 win
over the Barrie Colts.
Murphy, a 17-year-old from Aurora, ON, is playing in
his second OHL season with the Rangers. Eligible for
the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Murphy will represent Team
OHL at the 2010 SUBWAY Super Series on Thursday
November 11 in London, ON.

Goaltender of the Month – Mavric Parks, Saginaw
Spirit
Mavric Parks backstopped the Saginaw Spirit to a
6-1-0-1 record in October posting a league-low
goals-against-average of 2.20 and a league-high save
percentage of .935. He made a total of 261 saves in
eight games turning aside more than 30 shots on four
occasions including a career-high 52 saves on
October 29 as first star of a 5-2 win over the Owen
Sound Attack. He also posted 38 saves on October 22
in a 3-2 win over top Eastern Conference opponent
the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors helping the
Spirit secure a place in the BMO CHL MasterCard
Top-10 Rankings as top team in the OHL’s Western
Conference with 26 points in 16 games.
Parks, a 20-year-old from Eganville, ON, is playing
in his fourth OHL season and first with the Spirit.
In 11 games between the pipes this season, he
carries the second lowest goals-against-average in
the OHL with a mark of 2.33 and the best save
percentage at .933.
