Sarnia Lady Sting
Midget AA team travelled to Rochester New York
this past weekend to compete in the Bauer
International Invite Tournament. The Sting
played up a division in the U19 bracket, and
faired very well against their older
competitors.
Game one Friday was
against fellow Canadians Rideau St. Lawrence. The
hard work of Emily Williams netted the lone
goal for the Sting. Sierra Butler assisted. The
game remained 1-0 deep into the third. With
under 2 minutes and Sarnia on the power play,
Rideau iced the puck. Sarnia's net minder Cassie
Kerrigan went into the corner to play the puck,
but an unlucky bounce off a defenseman sent it
right into the Stings net tieing the game.
Sarnia outplayed their opponents the entire
game. Cassie Kerrigan also had a very strong
showing in net.
Game two was against
Wyoming Pennsylvania. Sarnia once again would
open the scoring early in the game when Alicia
MacDougall would pop in a rebound from Darian
Limbs shot on net. Wyoming would answer back
just seconds later, making it 1-1. Halfway into
the second, Alicia MacDougall would roof one for
her second of the game. Melissa Kelly and Sierra
Butler both picked up assists. Going into the
third, the game now tied 2-2, Karly Dobbin made
a beautiful move to net the final and winning
goal. Danielle Girard and Jillian Rops assisted.
Erica Sullivan got the first win in net for the
Sting.
Game three was a
must win situation as only first place in each
division moved on. Unfortunately it wasn't meant
to be. The game finished with no scoring for
either team. Cassie Kerrigan earned her third
shutout of the season. So without even losing a
game, the Sting finished second and did not
advance. Sarnia gave it their all the entire
tournament, and played some of their best hockey
so far this season. The team is really working
well as at unit, and good things are surely to
come. They travel to Whitby the first weekend in
December for the next tournament.
Sarnia also played a
consolation game on Saturday night that did not
mean anything. They faced the home town
favorites Rochester Edge. The Sting did not fair
so well in this last match up, losing 6-4. After
entering the game late because of equipment
problems, Karly Dobbin dominated the ice,
skating circles around her opponents and netting
two beautiful goals. Darian Adams persistence in
front of the net paid off when she tipped in the
Sting's third goal. The only other goal for
Sarnia came from the strong skating Marlowe
Pecora. Danielle Girard and Shauna McPhail each
picked up one assist.
