Akeson Named OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today
announced that Kitchener Rangers’ forward Jason
Akeson is the OHL Player of the Week after scoring
an incredible 15 points in three games for the week
ending November 7. Akeson recorded three goals and
12 assists along with an impressive plus-minus
rating of plus-7.
Akeson led the Rangers to three wins including two
against Midwest Division rivals the London Knights
and recorded four assists in all three contests
providing the set-up of all three game-winning
goals. His best game was played Friday night at home
in an 8-0 win over the Belleville Bulls. He recorded
his first career six-point game with two goals and
four assists as first star of the game. Against the
Knights, Akeson was twice named second star of the
game including Thursday night with a goal and four
assists in the 8-2 win on the road, and then at home
on Sunday with four assists as part of the 5-4 win.
Akeson, a 20-year-old from Orleans, ON, is playing
in his fourth OHL season with the Rangers. A free
agent invite to the Anaheim Ducks Training Camp this
season, Akeson currently leads the OHL in scoring
with 34 points in 17 games.
Fellow Rangers Gabriel Landeskog and Ryan Murphy
receive honourable mention for the award this week
after each recording nine points in three games.
Landeskog scored five goals and four assists also
matching Akeson’s plus-minus rating of plus-7, while
Murphy led all defencemen with a goal and eight
assists. In goal, JP Anderson of the Mississauga St.
Michael’s Majors won three games including a shutout
victory posting a goals-against-average of 0.67 and
save percentage of .973.
