On Sunday November 7 the Jr. Sting traveled to
Stratford to face the Warriors and gained a 3 - 1
victory.
Sarnia started strong and played much of the first
period in the Stratford end. The Jr. Sting defense
held the blue line while throwing pucks back at the
Warriors goal. At 6:27 Kaz Gudelis fired from the
point and the puck found its way to the back of the
Stratford Net. The referees reported that the stick
of Collin Zimmer changed the direction of the puck
on its way to the net so Collin was awarded the goal
with an assist to Kaz.
The second period would yield no goals for either
team. Jr. Sting goalie Cameron Stevens stood up to
all Stratford shots that came his way. In the
beginning of the third period on a beautiful
cross-ice pass from Zander Campbell, Hayden Griffin
broke in from the Stratford Blue line and beat the
goalie to put the Jr. Sting up by two. Mathew Waun
was also awarded an assist on the play.
Stratford would own most of the third period but
Stevie Schaefer's solid play during his turn in the
Sarnia net turned back many odd man rushes. The
Warriors would finally score with 6 minutes to go in
the third to put a scare into the large Sarnia crowd
in attendance, however, Mat Waun would answer for
the Jr. Sting just 15 seconds later with an assist
going to Hayden Griffin.
The sting held off the Warriors for the next 5
minutes including the extra skater for the last
minute and a half to earn the victory.
The Jr. Sting next travel to London on Wednesday
November 10 to face the West London Hawks. |
