The Sarnia Flag
Football
Association
began its
playoffs with 2
semi-final games
on Sunday
November 28 at
Lansdowne Park
in Sarnia. At
11:00 the ANWIS
Heat hoped to
upset the
undefeated and
defending SFFA
champions, the
Bluewater Power
Titans….but it
was not to be as
the Titans
dominated the
field on both
sides of the
ball controlling
the ball for the
majority of the
game before
defeating the
Heat by a score
of 27 to 13.
Scoring for the
Titans were Jim
Grasse, Bryan
Weaver and Jay
Allison. For the
Heat in the
losing cause,
majors were
scored by Joe
Mason and Barry
McGann.
The 1:00 semi
featured an
extremely
competitive
match-up between
the SFFA
expansion team,
the Onsite
Sportswear Power
Champs against
the veteran
Lambton Metal
Service Rampage.
During regular
season, these 2
teams always had
close games
against each
other as well as
similar win-loss
records in the
league. As with
the first game
of the day, the
Power Champs
hoped to
overthrow the
perennial
bridesmaid
Rampage….and for
much of the
game, it looked
like the upset
was in the
making as the
Power Champs
held a 1 point
lead going into
the 3rd quarter.
But experience
and patience
held the day as
the Rampage
scored late in
the 4th.
However, with 5
plays left in
the game….the
Power Champs
began marching
the ball down
field. But with
2 plays left in
the game,
Rampage’s Sean
Devereaux
intercepted a
deep pass ending
the Power Champs
dreams of
overthrowing the
Rampage.
And with this,
the SFFA
Bluewater
Championship
game is set as
the Bluewater
Power Titans
will again be
challenged by
the Lambton
Metal Service
Rampage for the
3rd time in 3
years. The
Titans will hope
defend their
title as the 5
time SFFA
champions while
the Rampage will
hope that the
“third time is a
charm” as they
try to get the
monkey of their
back in finally
defeating the
Titans in the
championships.
Game time is at
12:00 on Sunday
December 05 at
Lansdowne Park
in Sarnia.
