Sting Major Atom's extend winning streak to six

The Sarnia Major Atom A/AA Sting picked up wins against Cambridge (7 – 4) and Oakridge (5 – 2) recently to bring their winning streak to 6 games.

On Sunday, at Germain Arena, the Sting showcased the high level of play this team is capable of by completely dominating the Cambridge Hawks for the first 2 periods of play, limiting the Hawks to 3 shots on goal and taking a 5 – 0 lead to the 3rd period.  Sarnia swarmed the Cambridge zone relentlessly shift after shift.  Jack Smith (Austin Coutts, Matthew Torti) and Jake Vince (Devin Devooght, Justin Houle) would record goals in the 1st period and Lucas Ross (Curtis Marks, Dawson Young), Devin Devooght (Jack Smith, Tristan Haagsma) and Dawson Young (Lucas Ross, Austin Coutts) would score in the 2nd period. 

Sarnia would get into penalty trouble in the 3rd period and Cambridge would score 3 power play goals, but Austin Coutts and Curtis Marks would respond with unassisted goals and the Sting would win by a final score of 7 – 4.  Sarnia would set a team record for shots on goal in this game with 45 shots and James Dunn picked up the win in goal.

 On Wednesday at Oakridge the Sting would put together another solid effort scoring 2 first period goals to once again establish an early lead after the 1st period.  Curtis Marks (Spencer Preece, Lucas Ross) would get the Sting on the board followed by Lucas Ross (Curtis Marks, Tristan Haagsma).  Oakridge would score a power play goal early in the 2nd to narrow the lead, but Dawson Young (unassisted) and Curtis Marks (Dawson Young, Lucas Ross) with his 2nd of the game would put the Sting back in front with a comfortable lead. 

Dawson Young (Lucas Ross, Justin Houle) would score his 2nd goal of the game in the 3rd period and the Sting would win this game by a final score of 5 – 2 with a solid effort in goal from Max Musico.  Coach Paul was pleased to report that the team had been able to successfully achieve the short term goal of starting the  the 2nd half of the season on a positive note by not only having fun and winning, but also bringing the overall team record for the season to the .500 mark and extending the team winning streak to a season high 6 games.
