sarniasports.com may 4th, 2011

The Sarnia Jr.B Pacers have won three straight after their season opener against Windsor, as the Pacers defeated the London Blue Devils for the second time this season 15-8.

Sarnia had previously defeated the Blue Devils in their home opener 12-10 before heading out on their road trip.

Much like the other three Sarnia victories, a first period lead was able to be held till the final buzzer sounded. But the first required some work from the Pacers. After going up 2-0 with powerplay goals from Kevin COnroy and Josh Eldridge, Sarnia got behind when London scored 4 goals within four minutes to take a 4-2 lead before midway into the first period.

But not to be outdone, Sarnia would respond with three of their own, as Connor Smith, Jimmy Purves, and Mitch Doughty each scored to give the Pacers a 5-4 lead. London's Jordan Bennett would tie it at 5-5, but with 16 seconds remaining in the period, Purves would score, putting Sarnia up 6-5 after the first.

In the second, London would tie it up quickly with a goal from Patrick Masterson to make it 6-6. Dan Charlton would put the Pacers back in front, but London would respond again with a tying goal. From that point on it was all Sarnia for the remainder of the game.

Purves would score on the powerplay for the hat-trick, and would later add his fourth goal of the game. Kevin Conroy would also add two in the period giving him a hat-trick after two periods, while Kevin Hussey scored as well for the Pacers, as Sarnia scored six goals in the period to take a 12-7 lead after two.

In the third, London's Brendan Chess would start the period with a goal, but that was as close as they would come, as Conroy would add his fourth of the night shorthanded, while Dan Charlton would add his second and Lance Ross his first of the night, as the Pacers go on to the 15-8 victory.

Justin Matthews earned his third victory of the season as he has started all four games for the Pacers this season.

Purves' 4 goals and 3 assists gives him 11 goals and 6 assists on the season. Dan Charlton's  2 goals and 4 assists also give him 17 points on the season with 6 goals and 11 assists.

Sarnia took advantage of the powerplay, scoring 4 powerplay goals on 7 chances, while London only scored once in 7 chances.

With the victory Sarnia improves to 3-1-0 on the season and sits in first place in the Far West division, two points up on Wallaceburg (2-2-0), and four points up on Windsor (1-2-0) and London (1-4-0). Sarnia will have a challenge in their final road game of the three game swing, as they take on Guelph (3-1-0) on Saturday, May 7th.

Sarnia returns home on Wednesday, May 11th against Wallaceburg.
