Pacers continue losing streak after letting victory slip

Wallaceburg, ON - The Sarnia Pacers had a chance to end their recent losing streak Wednesday against Wallaceburg, but despite holding a late third period lead, the Red Devils were able to come from behind and steal the win from the Pacers in overtime, handing the Pacers their sixth straight loss in Junior B Lacrosse.

The first period was a draw between the two teams, as Reid Miller made it 1-0 for Wallaceburg, but Sarnia's TJ Mara would respond to tie things at 1-1. Clint Lamarsh would score in the later half of the first for the Red Devils, but Kevin Conroy would knot it up, making it a 2-2 game after one.

In the second, Sarnia took the lead, as Mara scored his second of the game just a minute into the period. Twelve minutes later he would add his third of the night on the powerplay, giving the Pacers a 4-2 lead after the second.

Sarnia increase their led to three after Chad Zonneville scored, but with under four minutes left to play, the Red Devils would begin to chip into the lead. Wallaceburg would manage to score three goals to tie the game at 5-5, sending it into an overtime peirod.

In overtime Sarnia regained the lead, scoring twice to take a 7-5 lead. But the Red Devils would answer with three goals, as Clint Lamarsh scored twice to give the Red Devils a 8-7 victory.

Justin Matthews faced an excess of 60 shots on the net in the loss for the Pacers.

Sarnia next takes on the Six Nations Rebels on Friday, May 27th.
