Pacers fall short to Owen Sound

Owen Sound, ON - The Sarnia Pacer's came close to ending their losing streak, but Owen Sound was able to hold off Sarnia and take a 12-10 victory in Jr. B Lacrosse action.

Sarnia started strong in the first, owning the scoreboard for the first half of the period. Joe McKelvie scored the first goal of the game, while TJ Mara added a powerplay goal to make it 2-0. Lauchline Elder would add a powerplay goal for Owen Sound to cut the lead, but Sarnia would respond with two more goals, as Kevin Conroy and Dan Charlton made it 4-1 for the Pacers.

But with six minutes left in the period, Owen Sound would knot thingsback up, as Clint Lewis got Owen Sound within two, and Draw Barfoot would add those two for Owen Sound to even the score 4-4 after the first period.

In the second, Owen Sound continued and got their first lead of the game as Jordan Monohan made it 5-4. Charlton tied it back up for the Pacers, but it would be 15 minutes before Charlton would find the back of the net again at the end of the period, while Owen Sound would rake up a lead, scoring five goals, including two shorthanded goals by Elder and Barfoot, Bobby Underwood scored, and Dave Merver scored a pair, giving Owen Sound a 10-6 lead after the second.

Sarnia would come out quick in the third, as Kevin Hussey scored 17 seconds into the period. Josh Eldridge and Conroy would add two more for the Pacers to bring them to within one, but Clint Lewis and Curtis Gibbons would restore the three goal lead. Eldridge would score his second of the period, but it wouldn't be enough, as Owen Sound takes it 12-10.

Ian Ferguson got his first start of the season, making 28 saves on 40 shots in the loss. With the loss, Sarnia has dropped their last five games, and sit with six points in last place in the Far West division. Sarnia will next head to Wallaceburg on May 25th.
