Sarnia, ON - This summer will be a busy one for the Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club, as they announced they will be hosting the 2011 Ontario Women's and Men's Four Championships in June, welcoming 128 bowlers from across the province, and will also be one of five facilities used during the 2011 Ontario ParaSports Summer Games in August. Last Fall the club received a $15,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to make some much needed upgrades in preparation to host these national and provincial championships.

The $15,000 grant was used to purchase a new state-of-the-art lawn mower, specific for lawn bowling greens, as well as to replace the ditch boards around the greens.

"The new equipment ensures the Sarnia Lawn Bowling facility will be maintained to the high standards of the other provincial lawn bowling clubs and allows the local lawn bowlers to play and compete on similar courts as other clubs in the province," said Ian Smith, Director of Community Services for the City of Sarnia.

The Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club welcomes new bowlers and visitors to the club and the community, and will be hosting an open house for anyone interested in trying the sport of Lawn Bowling. The dates for the open house will be May 17-19 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 7:00 pm, and again on Saturday May 21st from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

"We are now ready to host and put on first class Championships," said Ralph Archer, President of the Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club. "And we encourage the public to come out and support the athletes and watch a great sport."
