Colts defeat Cyclones in senior girls rugby final
andrew brethauer may 17th, 2011

St. Clair High School - The St. Clair Colts are the 2011 LSSAA senior girls rugby champions with a 27-5 victory over the St. Christopher Cyclones.

The Colts opened the scoring quickly after keeping the ball in the Cyclones half and moving in quickly towards the goal. Jenna Coultes managed to work her way into the end zone after the Cyclones put up a strong front on the goal line, giving the Colts a 5-0 lead.

They would continue their attack on the Cyclones, as the Colts managed to keep the ball in the Cyclones end, and work it down field. Coultes would again find her way into the end zone for her second try of the game, giving the Colts a 10-0 lead.

St. Clair continued to put points, as the highest scoring offence of the Colts pitched the ball across the field and into the hands of Alex Hodgins who punched in another score for St. Clair, putting the Colts up 15-0 after the first half.

In the second half, the Colts continued what they had done all season, keeping the ball in their opponents end. Julia Greenshields would get a pitch off a scrum and get the ball into the end zone for the Colts fourth try of the game and a 22-0 lead after they hit their first convert kick of the game.

SCITS would finally break the hold the Colts defence had on them, as they would pick up a loose ball and run it back in for the try, the first the Colts had allowed all season, making it a 22-5 game.

But St. Clair would once again move it back down field and Taryn Bernier would get the Colts fifth try of the game, plus a convert to make it a 27-5 final.

St. Clair will represent the LSSAA in the SWOSSAA 2A division.
