sarniasports.com may 13th, 2011

Clearwater Arena - The Sarnia Pacers won three of their first four games to start the 2011 Lacrosse season but have found themselves behind the .500 mark for the first time since opening day, as the Pacers lost their third straight to the Elora Mohawks 17-8 Sunday afternoon.

Sarnia looked to have the very early advantage with a powerplay opportunity, but it would be the Mohawks who would score the first, as Sandy Heseltine scored shorthanded just 2:05 into the first. Ryan Johnston followed up just over a minute later to make it a 2-0 lead for Elora.

Jake Weidner would add the third goal for the Mohawks as well as his third point on the night already, while Steve Hutchison would score the second shorthanded goal of the period on the Pacers to make it a 4-0 game. Kyle Dobbie would add a powerplay goal for a 5-0 lead before Sarnia's Kevin Conroy would score on his own powerplay to get the Pacers on the board 5-1 before the end of the period.

But the second would start off just as the first did for the Pacers, as Ben Piluk would score a powerplay goal, followed by Weidner scorring two goals for his hat-trick, also giving him six points in the game in just a period and a half.

But Sarnia would begin to turn things around, as Joe McKelvie would get the Pacers on the board again with an unassisted goal, followed by Mitch Doughty, Kevin Conroy and TJ Mara each adding single goals to bring the Pacers to within three.

But Weidner of the Mohawks would add his third of the period, and Jake Quarrie would add his first of the game to put the Mohawks back in front by five at the end of the second.

In the third it would take Weidner only 26 seconds to score his fifth of the game, while Kyle Dobbie and Jake Quarrie would add their seconds of the game to make it 13-5. Conroy would complete the hat-trick for the Pacers, but the celebration was short lived as Weidner scored his second hat-trick of the game.

Ryan Johnston would add two goals in the period for the Mohawks, while Zack Shore would add s single goal for Elora to complete their scoring. Connor Smith and Dan Charlton would each add single powerplay goals for the Pacers, as they fall 17-8.

Elora heavily outshot the Pacers 55-40. Justin Matthews started the game for the Pacers and earned the lost, facing 39 shots and stopping 27 before he was pulled in the third period. Ian Ferguson allowed 5 goals on 16 shots.

The Pacers have lost their last three after winning the three games previous to the current streak. Sarnia is now in third place with a 3-4-0 record. 17 goals is the most Sarnia has allowed all season.

The Pacers now return back to the road, as they face Windsor, Owen Sound and Wallacebug over the next two weeks before returning home on May 27th against Six Nations.
