Alvinston, ON - The Alvinston Indians played host to the Glencoe Astros last evening in St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League action. This turned out to be a back and forth game, with both offenses producing many hits.

Glencoe scored a run in the first inning, but Alvinston squared matters immediately in their half, when after a Jamie Shields walk, and an Andy Triest sacrifice, Chris Drew collected an RBI single to score Shields.

In the second, the Indians went ahead when Aaron Stocking doubled, and then scored on an RBI single by Brad Young. The game would then remain quiet until the bottom of the fifth, when Alvinston struck to take a two run lead. Pinch hitter Chris Sheppard stepped up the plate and lined a single over third, and was immediately replaced by Brady Davenport on the base paths. Jamie Shields then sacrificed Davenport to second on a bunt, and Andy Triest hit an RBI single scoring Davenport. Alvinston was happy to have a two run lead, but that proved to be very costly, as Glencoe took advantage of the Indians and a couple of errors in the their half of the sixth inning, when they scored 3 runs, to take a 4-3 lead.

Glencoe would then add one mroe run in the seventh, to widen their lead to 5-3. But, it was not enough. Joe Triest and Jamie Shields both singled to start the seventh, and then with two out and the game on the line, Ryan Chapman, Aaron Stocking, and Tom Jobson all singled, to score Joe Triest, Chris Drew, and Ryan Chapman. Chapman scored the game winning run on the game ending hit by Tom Jobson.

Jeff Lyons earned the decision on the mound for the Indians in relief of both Brad Young and Kyle Crawford. Alvinston had 10 hits in the game, and battled their way to six walks. Ryan Gray and Mark Johnson each had multi hit games for Glencoe, while Aaron Stocking had two hits for Alvinston in the 6-5 come from behind win.

Alvinston travels to Morpeth Friday evening, to face the Morpeth Magic. Game time is 8:00pm
