
Clearwater Arena - Much like Sunday's game against Guelph, the Sarnia Jr. B Pacers held the lead after the first period, but were heavily outscored in the third, leading to a 12-10 loss to the Wallaceburg Red Devils.
The first period started in Sarnia's favour, as the Pacers capitalized off powerplay chances, scoring two powerplay goals to open the game. Dan Charlton had the first powerplay goal just 1:04 into the game, while Josh Eldridge would put the Pacers back in front with his powerplay goal. Aaron Schieman would add a short handed goal to give the Pacers a 3-1 lead.
But Sarnia would fall into their own penalty trouble, as they would take three penalties within a minute of each other, resulting in a prolongued 5 on 3 despite the penalties coming to an end. Wallaceburg would capitalize, as Dillon Lapointe would make it a 3-2 game with his goal, yet the Pacers still held the lead after the first.
Jimmy Purves opened the scoring in the second to put the Pacers back up by 2. But again the Red Devils would respond on the powerplay, as Jordan Durston would bring the Red Devils back to within one.
Dan Charlton would add his second of the game to put the Pacers back up by two, and score his third of the game two minutes later just after Wallaceburg brought the game back to one. But the Red Devils would get back into the game, scoring two goals within 39 seconds to tie the game at 6-6. But Kevin Conroy would add a goal, and Purves would get his second of the period to put the Pacers back in front 8-6.
The third period started promising for the Pacers as Aaron Schieman got his 2nd and 3rd goals of the game to put the Pacers up by four goals 10-6. But Wallaceburg would begin to climb back into the game.
Reid Miller would get his second of the game to start the climb back, followed by Jordan Durston scoring on the powerplay to make it a two goal game again. Rob Pollock would add another goal thirty seconds later to bring the Red Devils to within one.
Two minutes later Durston would score his third of the game to tie it at 10-10, and just over a minute later, Pollock would get the go ahead goal, giving the Red Devil's their first lead of the game 11-10. Lapointe would add a late powerplay goal, his third of the game, to make it a 12-10 final for Wallaceburg.
Sarnia went 3 for 4 on the powerplay, but allowed Wallaceburg to go 4 for 9 on their powerplay. Late in the game the Pacers were looking for calls to go their way, and it seemed as i
f they got off their game during the six goal streak of Wallaceburg.
This was the second game in a row the Pacers have lost after leading after the first period, and the first game lost with Jimmy Purves in the line up.
Justin Matthews stopped 30 shots of the 42 he faced in the loss, while Kirby Celotto stopped 34 of the 44 he faced.
With the loss the Pacers go to 3-3 on the season and sit tied for second with Wallaceburg who is also 3-3.
Sarnia will have a chance to stay above .500 with another home game on Sunday, May 15th against Elora (4-2-0) at 4:00pm at Clearwater Arena.
