Guelph snaps Pacers three game winning streak
sarniasports.com may 8th, 2011

Guelph, ON -
For the first time this season, the Sarnia Jr. B Pacers had the lead after the first period but didn't walk away with the victory, as the Guelph Regals handed Sarnia their second loss of the season with a 16-7 victory.

Sarnia had the 3-2 lead after the first period, with Aaron Schieman scoring all three Pacer goals. Kevin Conroy and Dan Charlton were on the assists for each goal as well, as the three Pacers have three points each after the first period. A period which also included giving up a shorthanded goal to the Ragals Spencer Fraser-Steinbach.

In the second, the scoring opened up, as Sarnia got out to a two goal lead with Ben Tamming scoring his second of the season. Guelph would respond with two goals seven minutes apart, before TJ Mara would put the Pacers back in front just over the halfway mark.

For the next six minutes of the period, Guelph would take over the scoring, as the Regals put in four goals passed Sarnia netminder  Justin Matthews. But Sarnia would get two back before the end of the period as Lance Ross added his 7th of the season and Conner Smith scored his 4th, to bring the Pacers to within one after the second period.

But in the third, Guelph controlled the scoreboard, as the Regals shutout the Pacers in the final period, while scoring eight goals in the period. Mike Cazzola had the period hat-trick while Jordan Godin had two and Cassady Louks scored two in the period to give him four goals in the game.

The big third period and lack of Pacer offence lead to the 16-7 Regals victory, snapping Sarnia's three game winning streak, and their first loss since opening day against Windsor.

Charlton and Conroy each came away with four assists on the night as Sarnia's leading points scorers, while Jordan Godin had seven points, 3 goals and 4 assists for the Regals. Justin Matthews picking up the loss for the Pacers as he made his fifth straight start.

Pacers leading goal scorer Jimmy Purves was not in the line-up and has been absent from the line-up in both of Sarnia's losses this season.

The Pacers will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday, May 11th as they return home to take on the Wallaceburg Red Devil's (2-3-0).
