The Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor Atom MD are off to the Alliance West MD Finals after defeating the Stratford Warriors 2-1 Monday night at the Sarnia Arena.
With the best two out of three series tied at one game apiece the Jr. Sting knew they needed a strong effort and played some of their best hockey so far this year.
Zac Moore scored early in the first period on a backhand shot along the ice that found the bottom corner of the Warriors net. Collin Zimmer assisted on the play with a nice backhand pass to Moore. Hayden Griffin was also awarded an assist on the play.
Sarnia got into some penalty trouble in the second period but were able to keep Stratford off the score board. Half way through the third frame Mathew Waun converted a pass from Ian Bailey for th
e second goal of the game. Waun out waited the sprawling Stratford net minder and lifted a wrist shot into the back of the cage.
The Warriors scored with one and a half minutes left in the game but the Jr. Sting were able to hold on for the win. Stevie Schaefer and Cameron Stevens split the duties in net for the Jr. Sting and once again played a solid game, denying the Warriors on several scoring chances.
The Jr. Sting will now face the London Nationals. Game time is yet to be announced.
