Paul Davis Systems wins Peewee championship at March Break
andrew brethauer march 20th, 2011

Paul Davis Systems defeated Tim Horton's in the Peewee finals of the March Break tournament 4-2 Sunday afternoon at the Clearwater arena.

In the first period, Tim Horton's controlled the action, keeping the puck in deep and putting pressure on Paul Davis goalie Nick Gasdner. Kasen Sebben in front would be stopped by the blocker of Gasdner who held his ground, keeping the game scoreless.

Back the other way, Donny Stephenson would get a chance off a rush, but his wrist shot would sail just over the crossbar. On another chance on a 2 on 1, Stephenson lost control of the puck, be regained just in time to wrist a shot on net, but Matt Clouse was able to make the save, and keep the first period scoreless.

In the second period, Tim Horton's had Gasdner down and a scramble in front, but no one could pick up the rebound and put it into the empty net. This would prove costly as Stephenson would find Riley Barnard open with a pass, and Barnard would wrist it passed Clouse to put the Systems up 1-0.

But the lead didn't last long, as finally the Tim Horton's pressure would pay off. With the puck thrown on net, Tim Horton's would scramble to put it in. Finally Jamie Roberts would find it and jam it in to tie the game at 1-1 after the second period.

In the third period, Paul Davis Systems would turn it on and quickly, as Stephenson would finally find the back of the net, putting a nice puck drag around the defence before back handing it high into the net for a 2-1 lead.

Tim Horton's would put the pressure on looking to tie but would get a penalty for too many men called. But the penalty kill didn't hurt their offence, as Ty Espinola would find Kasen Sebben for the cross crease put in to tie it up 2-2.

But just under a minute later, Dustin Creasor would keep the puck on a 2 on 1, wristing a shot that would catch the post and go in, putting Paul Davis back up 3-2.

With the period closing in, Stephenson would look for his second goal, again dragging the puck around the defender and wristing a shot passed Clouse for his second of the game to make it 4-3.

Tim Horton's would pull their goalie, but with the penalty box full, they were still down a man and time would run out as Paul Davis Systems would go on to win the Peewee championship 4-2.
