Orange Sabers defeat Nashville
andrew brethauer march 19th, 2011

The Sarnia Orange Sabers picked up a 5-3 victory over Nashville - KMHA in the novice division of the March break tournament.

Nashville got off to the early start in the first, as Kyle Murawsky got a tap in goal from Carter Rasiovetzky to put Nashville up 1-0 just two minutes into the first.

Nashville would continue to put the pressure on the orange team, as a scramble in front of the net led to a few shots, but none could get passed Jacob Graham who stood strong in the orange net.

And his effort would pay off, as the orange team would tie it up as Morgan Kernohan picked up a loose up in the sot and roofed it on Nashville goalie Damian Mosaad.

Nashville would counter with an attack of their own as Justin Hamilton tried to beat the defence with his speed, but his shot was stopped by Graham. Another scramble in front of the net would give Nashville a few chances, but their shots would go wide of the net. Cayden Wise would use his speed and get a scoring chance for the Orange team, but he was not able to find the back of the net as the period ended 1-1.

In the second, Hamilton would again come down on the wing, but his shot from a sharp angle couldn't find the net. Orange would get a scramble in front, but also couldn't spot a puck to put it passed the goalie. Chandler Haagsma had three chances in front, but a shot was blocked and another went wide.

Finally Hamilton would get his goal, as the speedy forward rushed from his own end on a breakaway and his wrist shot beat Graham to put Nashville up 2-1.

A minute later, Orange would reply as Jacob Roe was left alone in front of the net, where he backhanded a shot passed Mosaad to tie the game at 2-2.

Under a minute later, Orange would take the lead as Olivia Ferrera jammed a puck home that was just under the goalie pad, giving the Orange Sabers a 3-2 lead after the 2nd period.

In the third period, Orange would put their lead up to two quickly as Cayden Wise sends a low backhander on net that beats Mosaad to make it 4-2.

Nashville would continue to pressure to try and cut the lead and it finally would come as Hamilton would speed away again, catching Graham making the first move and putting a wrist shot passed the keeper to cut the lead to just one.

But sooner after Orange would put the lead back up to two as Wise would fight off three attackers and drive to the net, wristing a shot passed Mosaad to make it 5-3 and give Orange the victory.
