Lehder comes from behind twice for victory
andrew brethauer march 18th, 2011

The Lehder (Teal) team came back twice from two goals down to defeat the Magermans and Raes (Blue) team 5-4 with a late third period goal for the victory in the Atom division.

Magermans opened the scoring within the first two minutes as Tairen Snauwaert walked in and put a low shot passed Lehder goalie Danielle Defrederice to put the Blue team up 1-0.

Tyson Pereira would get a good chance for Lehder but the Magermans defence would recover, resulting in a shot wide of the net. The Magermans goalie Riley Hull would continue to get a workout as Lehder forwards would get a shot in close, but Hull would come up with a big kick save.

Lehder would finally get on the board as their first shot by Zachary Schaefer is blocked, but Hull played the first shot, leaving his net open, and Dawson Skelton was there to put in the open net shot to cut the lead in half.

Just over a minute later, Lehder would get another chance as Mitchell Neal steals the puck and keeps on a 2 on 1, putting his shot passed Hull to tie the game up at 2-2 after the first period.

In the second period, Magermans would retake their lead quickly, as Lewis Haagsma is stopped on a breakaway chance, but the puck flips over the goalie and lands just in front of the goal line. Craig Vanderlaan would step in and jam the puck into the net to put Magermans back in front 3-2.

Under a minute later, a fluke play would put Magermans up by two again, as Eric Duguay's shot from the point is redirected by a Lehdner defencemen and got passed Defrederice to put Magermans up 4-2.

But Lehder would get one back soon after, as Neal would skate in off the faceoff and send a shot on net that Hill couldn't handle and it trickled into the back of the net to make it 4-3 after the second.

In the third, Magermans would get their chances but couldn't restore their two goal lead. Neal for Lehder would skate by the defence and deke Hull, leaving a wide open net for the easy put in to tie the game back up 4-4.

Both teams would get their chances late in the third looking for the go ahead. But Neal would once again use his speed to pull away from the defence and wrist a shot passed the blocked of Hull to put Lehder up for the first time in the game 5-4. Despite pulling their goalie, Magermans could not tie the game, and Lehder would get the come from behind victory.
