Jr. Sting finish play downs with shutout

The Jr. Sting Minor Atom MD finished their play downs on the weekend defeating the Stratford Warriors on Friday in Sarnia 3 - 0 and the London Bandits in London on Saturday 7 - 1.

On Friday against the Stratford Warriors Zac Moore opened the scoring for the Jr. Sting late in the first period. Beynon Jonas started the play by intercepting the Warriors clearing attempt and dishing the puck to Collin Zimmer who passed to Zac for a high backhand that fooled the Stratford netminder.

After a scoreless second period Mathew Waun skated sown the right wing and fired a wrist shot to the far side of the net
to give the Jr. Sting a 2 goal lead, Logan Johnston and Evan Trigatti were given assists on the play. Hayden Griffin closed out the scoring for the Jr. Sting later in the third as he shoveled the puck over the goal line after an Ian Bailey chance, Tom Cardinal also drew an assist on the play. Final Score Sarnia 3, Stratford 0. Stevie Schaefer and Cameron Stevens shared the shut-out.

On Saturday versus the London Bandits Mat Waun scored on a wrap around with two minutes left in the first period for the
games first goal. Zac Moore scored his first of three goals shortly after with an assist going to Collin Zimmer. Ian Bailey fired a high wrist shot in the back of the net to start the second period with assists going to Kaz Gudelis and Zander Campbell. Hayden Griffin scored on a nice feed from Thomas Cardinal a few minutes later. Zac Moore scored #2 with six minutes left in the second from Damon Skinn-Wai and #3 with three minutes left in the second with assists going to Thomas Cardinal and Ryan Eyre. Ryan Eyre would one-time a perfect pass from Collin Zimmer between the goalies legs
to complete the scoring for the Jr. Sting. Zac Moore was also awarded an assist on the play. Cameron Stevens and Stevie Schaefer would once again split the duties in net for the Jr. Sting.

The Jr. Sting finished 2nd in the play downs and will face the 3rd place Stratford Warriors in the Alliance MD West Semi-Finals. Game one is Friday March 18; 7:00 at the SARNIA ARENA
