Lakers eliminated from playoffs march 15th, 2011

The Wallaceburg Lakers have been eliminated from the Great Lakes Junior C playoffs with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Wheatley Sharks, who take the series 4-2.

Wallaceburg got the game started early with a powerplay goal by Rob Pollock. Despite outshooting the Sharks 12-5 in the first, the Lakers were not able to hold the lead as Dylan Cosford was able to make it a tie game with 13 seconds remaining in the period.

In the second, the Sharks would take their first lead of the game as Kevin Swatzky made it 2-1 for Wheatley, scoring his 2nd of the playoffs. Wallaceburg would be shutout in the period, only getting 7 shots on net.

In the third, the Lakers pressed to knot the game up. In the dying minutes of the game, Brendon Merritt was able to get the equalizer and send the game into overtime.

In overtime Wallaceburg would get the shots on net early on, but it wasn't meant to be. With just under half the overtime period gone, Josh Tremblay scored for Wheatley to win the game and the series.

Matt Berglund made 23 stops in the loss.

Wheatley now moves on to play Belle River in an all South Division final.
