The Point Edward Peewee Blackhawks hosted the Aylmer Flames on March 8th 2011. The Hawks had a disappointing game one on Saturday March 5th but the Hawks brought their “A” game to the second game in the series.

The first period started with both teams looking to acquire the first goal of the game. The Hawks and Flames were evenly matched. The goalies on both teams played exceptional between the pipes, not letting in any goals.

The second period seen the Hawks come out a bit stronger as they played with more confidence after holding off the Flames in the first period. Daniel Marr got the “can opener” less than three minutes into the period with assist going to Blake Taylor and Adam Jackson.  Brandon Fortey was outstanding in the net and was able to prevent the Flames from obtaining any goals to tie it up before the period ended.

The Hawks started the third period off with a power play due to a Cross Checking penalty late in the second period. The Flames were able to keep the Hawks from scoring during the extra man advantage.   Blake Taylor gets the puck past the Flames goalie a third of the way into the period with an assist going to Chris Courtemanche. Late in the period, Jonathon Boccanfuso finds the back of the net with assist going to Chris Courtemanche and Adam Jackson. Strong defensive play, good back checking and great goaltending kept the Flames from getting on the board. The Hawks win the game 3-0.

The Hawks will host the Flames on March 19th in Point Edward at 6:00PM.

The Point Edward Peewee Blackhawks traveled to Aylmer on a cold and rainy day March 5th 2011 to take on the Aylmer Flames.

The teams look fairly well matched, but the Hawks seemed to be running on empty this day. The game was not as physical as seen in the previous series against the Mt. Brydges Cougars. The Flames were the first to add points to the scoreboard halfway through the first period.  The period ended with the Hawks trailing 0-1.

The Hawks came out in the second period looking a bit deflated. Again, the Flames were able to score a second goal against Brandon Fortey midway through the period. Less than a minute later Daniel Marr gets the puck past the Flames netminder to keep the score within 1 point. Assisting on the goal was Blake Taylor and Adam Jackson.  The Hawks finished off the period down by one.

The Hawks were unable to produce any big plays in the third period. Jonathon Boccanfuso had some good moves but the Flames netminder was able to keep the Hawks from generating any more goals. Midway through the period the flames struck again.

The Hawks take their first loss since the end of the regular season.

Next the Hawks will host the Flames in Point Edward on March 8th.

The Fifth game of the series brought the Point Edward Peewee Blackhawks back to Mt. Brydges on Feb 28th to play the Cougars. The Blackhawks came out strong in the first game of the series with a 5-1 win, and the next 3 games the two teams had tied with scores of: 2-2, 1-1, and 1-1. It was anybody’s game.

The Hawks would not go down without a fight and that had aggravated the Cougars during this series. Once the puck dropped the Cougars came out hitting (literally). The center for the Cougars bowled over Mark Saint, without concern for winning the draw, but the Hawks anticipated that type of play and did not get drawn in. Over and over again the Cougars tried to make ice pancakes out of the Hawks. However, the Cougars did not expect what was well overdue for the Hawks in this series….

The Cougars scored the first goal of the game halfway into the first period. Two minutes later the Hawks opened up a can of you know what to return the favor!  Marty Riddell receives a pass from Bradley Hunking just inside the hawks own blue line, and proceeded to take it down the ice to the Cougars zone. He fires the puck at the net so fast that the goalie had no idea where it was. Sixteen seconds later the same line presses back into the Cougars zone and Bradley Hunking takes aim on the net. The Cougars goalie was able to deflect the puck but not maintain possession. The quick actions of Jonathon Boccanfuso have him tapping the puck past the goal line. Nearing the end of the period, Blake Taylor breaks away from the crowd and adds another point on the score sheet. The Hawks take the lead going into the second period 3-1.

The second period was not much different from the first for the Hawks. Adam Waddell accepts a pass from Nevan Smith and makes his way past the defense to score 47 seconds into the period. Less than two minutes later, Chris Courtemanche finds a small opening in the net with yet another one of his trademark slap shots just inside the Cougars blue line making it 5-1.  Midway into the period Nevan Smith gets his second assist of the game with a short pass to Noah Young. Noah shoots the puck from the “point” and it takes a bounce close to the net, deflecting the puck past the goalie for the third goal of the period.  The Hawks dominated the period with the Cougars trailing 6-1.

The Cougars were able to manage a second and final goal against the Hawks outstanding netminder Brandon Fortey. But wait, the Hawks were not ready to settle for a 6-2 game.  Less than a minute after the Cougars goal, Blake Taylor gets his second goal of the game with a pass from Daniel Marr. Halfway into the period, Mark Saint takes delivery of the puck from Daniel Marr to increase the score to 8-2. The Hawks players continued to dominate the game. The Cougars were under pressure and were getting frustrated which earned the Cougars eight penalty minutes in the last six minutes of the game.  With plenty of gas in the tank, Blake Taylor netted another hat trick this season with a pass from teammate Mark Saint with only 2:52 left in the period. Continued efforts from an amazing defense kept the Cougars from obtaining any goals. The Hawks win 9-2!

The Blackhawks win the series with 7 points and the Cougars only earning 3 points.

The Blackhawks will confront Aylmer in the finals!
