Despite scoring early in the first period, the Petrolia Squires were not able to hold their lead and were eliminated Sunday night with a 4-1 loss to Monkton in the WOAA senior AA hockey league playoffs.
Brad Cooper got the Squires their lone goal of the night just two minutes into the game with an assist from Mitch Zavitz. But for the remainder of the game the Squires were behind, being outshot 37-24 and giving up 7 powerplay chances to the Wildcats.
In the second period Dan Raycraft would get a powerplay goal to tie the game at 1-1. Under two minutes later Kevin Ward would put the Wildcats ahead with his second of the playoffs.
In the third Raycraft would add his sixth of the playoffs and second of the game to make it 3-1, and Perry Francis would cap off the game with his 5th to make it 4-1.
Justin Day made 33 saves in the loss for Petrolia.
With the loss Monkton wins the series 4-2 and moves on to play Tilsonburg in their next series.
