The
Northern
Vikings
fought back
to within
one against
St. Thomas
of Villanova
Wildcats on
Wednesday
afternoon,
but couldn't
find the
tying goal
as the
Wildcats win
the SWOSSAA
AAA/AAAA
championship
and will
head to
OFSAA.
Villanova got out to an early start as Daniel McIntyre made it 1-0 for the Wildcats. But the Vikings would respond and as Ben Sokol lets a shot go that can't be handled by the Wildcats goalie and the rebound comes to Justin Moore in front for the wide open put in to tie the game at 1-1 after the first period.
The two teams who met in the finals of the Shamrock Invitational would battle out the second period with no score, keeping the game locked at 1-1.
In the third, Villanova would open the board open as Kyle Burns made it 2-1 for the Wildcats and McIntrye scored his second of the game on the powerplay to put the Wildcats up 3-1, all within two minutes.
Tyler
Pope-Ferguson
would make
it 4-1 for
the Wildcats
with his mid
period
goalie,
seemingly
putting the
game out of
reach.

But the Vikings would come back and respond. Adam Lane would cut the lead in half with his late third period goal, and forty-six seconds later Ryan Dayman scored to put the Vikings behind by just one.
The Vikings would pull the goalie, but despite the extra man they could not find the extra goal needed to tie the game, and St. Thomas of Villabova skated off to a 4-3 victory and SWOSSAA championship.
This ends the Vikings season having lost out on the LSSAA Lambton Cup final to St. Clair 2-1, and now SWOSSAA finals.
