The Wallaceburg Lakers evened up their series with
the Wheatley Sharks, 1-1, after a 6-5 overtime
victory on Saturday night.
The Sharks
got out to the early start, as Jesse Martin scored
shorthanded to give Wheatley a 1-0 lead just three
minutes into the game. But before the period would
be out, Brendon Merritt would tie the game with an
unassisted goal for his 4th of the playoffs.
In the
second period in looked as if Wheatley would run
away with the game as penalty troubles severely hurt
the Lakers. Kurtis Ouellette would score on the
powerplay to put the Sharks up 2-1, and two minutes
later with another powerplay opportunity, Shawn
Quigley would make it 3-1. The Lakers would get a
goal back as Norm Leger add his 1st of the playoffs,
but the Sharks would again be blessed with powerplay
chances, and Dylan Cosford would make them pay,
scoring to make it 4-2. Just under a minute later,
Josh Tremblay would score on the powerplay again to
give the Sharks four powerplay goals in the period
and a 5-2 lead after the second.
In the
third, the Lakers would begin to mount a comeback.
Tyler Lewis would get a powerplay goal two minutes
into the period to cut the lead to 5-3. Tyson Isaac
would make it 5-4 with his mid period goal. With
time ticking away and the Lakers scrambling to
score, Lewis would pop in his second of the game
with one second remaining to tie the game at 5-5 and
send it into overtime.
In
overtime, Lewis capped off an amazing second half of
the game, as he scored his hat-trick to give the
Lakers the come from behind overtime victory 6-5,
knotting the series up at 1-1.
Matt
Berglund made 21 saves on 26 shots before he was
pulled and Reid Rankin took over, stopping all 7
shots he faced and picking up the win. Marc Tremblay
made 31 saves in the loss.
Game three
will go March 7th in Wallaceburg.
