Luke Young, 11, of the Sarnia Y Rapids Swim Team
earned gold in three of his events at a swim meet in
Waterloo on February 12 – the 100M Individual Medley
(IM), 50M backstroke and 50M breaststroke. He added
silver in the 50M butterfly and came 4th in the 100M
freestyle. Seven other Rapids swimmers finished 1st:
Austin Adams, 10, in the 50M backstroke (in addition
to bronze in the 50M freestyle and 5th in the 100M
backstroke); Devin Dabinovich, 13, in the 50M
breaststroke (with bronze in the 100M IM, 4th in the
50M butterfly and 5th in the 50M freestyle);
Christopher Dejonghe, 10, in the 50M breaststroke
(in addition to silver in the 100M backstroke);
Maddisson Hawryluk, 7, for the 100M IM (added to
silver in the 50M freestyle and 50M butterfly and
4th in the 100M backstroke); Madison McKinlay, 12,
for the 50M breaststroke (with a 5th-place in the
50M backstroke); Laura Potter, 7, in the 100M
breaststroke (adding silver in the 100M butterfly,
bronze in the 50M freestyle, and 5th in the 100M
backstroke); Kaiden Rawson, 8, for the 50M
breaststroke (with silver in the 50M freestyle and
50M butterfly, bronze in the 100M IM and 4th in the
50M backstroke).
Several of their teammates also earned medals: Ciara
Brown, 8, earned bronze in the 50M backstroke, and
added a 4th-place in the 50M breaststroke and
5th-place finishes in the 50M butterfly and 100M IM;
Nadia Cartwright, 12, earned silver in the 50M
butterfly, and also finished 4th in the 50M
freestyle and 100M breaststroke, and 5th in the 100M
backstroke and 200M IM; Dylan Cloud, 9, earned
bronze in the 100M breaststroke and also came 6th in
the 100M freestyle; Emma Devine earned bronze in the
50M butterfly; Samantha Lefebvre, 11, earned silver
in the 50M breaststroke, and also placed 4th in the
50M butterfly, 5th in the 100M IM and 6th in the 50M
backstroke; Staisya Murphy, 10, earned bronze in the
50M freestyle, 4th in the 100M breaststroke and 6th
in the 100M IM; Warren Potter, 11, earned silver in
the 100M IM, bronze in the 100M backstroke and 100M
butterfly, and 4th in the 50M freestyle; Sophie
Stasyna, 13, earned silver in the 100M IM and 50M
breaststroke and came 5th in the 100M breaststroke;
Noah VanBelle, 11, earned bronze in the 50M
freestyle and finished 4th in the 50M butterfly; and
Liam Young, 13, earned silver in the 50M freestyle
and 50M butterfly, bronze in the 200M IM, and
finished 4th in the 100M freestyle and 100M
backstroke.
Ally Core, 9, improved her time in the 100M IM by
more than 13 seconds, while Anna Derech improved
hers by more than 12 seconds in the 100M freestyle.
Jena Devine, 10, bettered her previous times in each
of her 4 events, most significantly in the 100M IM.
Mckenna Jackson earned three Top 10 finishes in her
first meet, while Ella Roland, 8, had two Top 10
results.
