February 27th
The
Blackhawks traveled to the old Strathroy arena on
Feb 27th to play the Mt Brydges Cougars in the
Fourth game of the series.
The Hawks came out fast and were able to keep the
puck deep in the Cougars zone for most of the first
period. The Hawks continue to struggle with the
power play having had two opportunities with an
extra man advantage. The Cougars goalie was able
keep the Hawks off the board with some quick glove
saves. The period ended in a 0-0 tie.
Midway through the second period, the Cougars got a
lucky goal off of a misunderstanding between Brandon
Fortey and a defenseman. The Cougars continued to
keep the puck in the Hawks zone but were unable to
come up with a second goal. Defenseman, Bryce Potvin
and Noah Young along with Center Jett Terpstra got
the Blackhawks crowd cheering with some exceptional
checking on the Cougars as a retaliation to the
Cougars strong hitting. The period ended in favor of
the Cougars 1-0.
Chris Courtemanche got things moving in the third
period. Chris moved the puck with an explosive burst
of speed coming around the back of the Hawks net and
rushing the puck past many of the Cougars players.
Just short of the net, Chris releases the puck with
blazing speed past the Cougars goalie to tie the
game. The hawks continued putting a lot of pressure
on the Cougars goalie with plenty of shots hitting
the posts as well as the goalie. The Hawks netminder
Brandon Fortey kept the Hawks in the game with
rock-solid goaltending between the pipes.
The series total: Blackhawks in the lead with 5
points and the Cougars with 3 points.

February 26th
The Point
Edward Blackhawks got some time to prepare during a
10 day hiatus since they last met the Mt. Brydges
Cougars on Feb 15th. The Third game in this series
of playoffs brings the Cougars to the Blackhawks
home ice on Feb 26th.
The first period stared out quiet. Neither team
making any big plays or hits. The Hawks created an
opportunity late in the period when Daniel Marr
accepts a pass from Chris Courtemanche and finds the
back of the Cougars net to make it a 1-0 game.
The Cougars started to put the pressure on in the
second period however the Hawks did not falter. The
Cougars took a roughing penalty midway through the
period. But the Hawks were unable to capitalize
during the advantage. Nearing the end of the period
Bradley Hunking picks up the puck just outside the
Hawks zone which generated a breakaway with his shot
going just wide of the net. Shortly after that,
Bradley stepped up and gave a Cougars player a solid
check stopping the player from making a shot on the
net! The score remained 1-0 after two periods of
play.
Early in the Third period, the Cougars shot the puck
which got a lucky bounce off of a defenseman’s pants
to make it a 1-1 game. The Hawks kept cool headed
and continued to try to get past the Cougars Defense.
Late in the period the Cougars managed to get a
bench penalty, giving the Hawks another one man
advantage. For a second time this game the Hawks
were unable to make the most of the advantage and
the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
The series total: Blackhawks in the lead with 4
points and the Cougars with 2 points.
