Sarnia,
On – Sarnia Sting General Manager Jacques Beaulieu
announced this afternoon the hockey club has
selected Ludvig Rensfeldt with its first round
selection (49th overall) in the 2011 CHL Import
Draft.
Rensfeldt a native of Gavle, Sweden was the 2nd
round selection (35th overall) of the Chicago
Blackhawks in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Rensfeldt was a member of the Swedish Under 18 team
in 2010 capturing a Silver Medal.
Last season the forward played 16 games with Brynas
of the Swedish Elite League and played the majority
of the season with Brynas Jr. club.
The Sting were originally slated to select 57th but
made a deal with Sudbury to move up to 49th to take
Rensfeldt. The Sting sent a 13th round pick in the
2013 OHL Priority Selection to Sudbury in order to
trade up.
Beaulieu explains his thoughts on drafting Rensfeldt.
“All reports we have on Ludvig is that he is a big,
explosive, powerful winger with a very good shot.
Being a 2nd round pick of Chicago is also very
reassuring that we have drafted a quality player who
will step into our top two lines and be a presence
on the power play. We are optimistic we can convince
Ludvig that playing in Sarnia and the Ontario Hockey
League will be the best choice for his development
but that process now just begins.”
