The top
2 teams in the St. Thomas & District Major Fastball
League faced off against one another on Tuesday
evening in Fingal, for a double-header.
Game #1 pitted Indians ace Brad Young against St.
Thomas pitcher Todd Winkworth. St. Thomas went in
front in the first inning on a 2-out blast by Brent
Crocker making it 2-0. Then in the second St. Thomas
added to their lead again making it 5-0, as three
errors were made by the Alvinston defence,
contributing to all 3 runs. However, in the top of
the third, Alvinston would make it a game, when Eric
Hyatt and Jamie Shields both singled and then scored
on Jeff Ingram's three run home-run, making it 5-3.
Unfortunately that's all the scoring Alvinston could
muster, as they lost game #1 by the score of 5-3.
Patrick Saunders recorded his first career hit for
Alvinston in this game, while Eric Hyatt was 2/4 in
the lead-off position for Alvinston.
In game #2, the game was over pretty quick, as
Alvinston exploded for 11 runs in the opening
inning, off of the St. Thomas pitcher. Ryan Cummings
came in in relief for St. Thomas and shut the door,
but the damage was done, as Alvinston would cruise
to a 5 inning mercy win of 11-3. St. Thomas scored
all three of their runs in the second inning, but
Indians pitcher Kyle Crawford held St. Thomas at bay
the rest of the way, to earn the victory. Crawford
allowed three earned runs, 3 hits, and 2 walks, over
5 innings of work. Scoring for Alvinston were Jamie
Shields (2), Jeff Ingram (2), Chris Drew, Brad
Young, Eric Hyatt, Aaron Stocking, Chris Sheppard,
Tom Jobson, and Joe Triest. Driving in the runs were
Drew (3), Hyatt (3), Young, Stocking, Sheppard,
Jobson, and Shields.
The Alvinston Indians now have a record of 10-2 on
the season in league play, and play again at home on
Thursday night, beginning at 8:00pm, against the
Morpeth Magic.
