In a game with play-off implications, the Sarnia
Sturgeon Junior Varsity team came out on the short
end of a game with the Forest City Thunderbirds
Sunday at Norm Perry Park.
The
Sturgeon scored first on a determined run up the
middle by fullback Jordan Huzevka. Huzevka's convert
made the score 7-0 for the home side. In the second
quarter, two long runs by the speedy Brandon Day had
the visitors up 14-7 at the half.
There
was no scoring in the third quarter and the teams
traded field goals in the final 15 minutes. Sarnia's
field goal was kicked by Huzevka who accounted for
the team's entire point total in a 17-10 defeat.
The
usually potent Sturgeon offence was somewhat anaemic
and had difficulty moving the ball consistently.
Three fumbles were a detriment to their success. The
defence played tough all game led by the strong play
of Jake Brimmer, Peter Fais, Christian Fanset and
Evin Ellwood.
Next
Sunday at 2 pm, the Sturgeon Junior Varsity host the
Burlington Stampeders at Norm Perry Park.
