OHL announced invites to U-17 camp
sarniasports.com june 2nd, 2011

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League announced that 74 players selected in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection have been invited to attend this year’s Under-17 Provincial Camp.

Hockey Northwestern Ontario based in Thunder Bay will be the host of this year’s camp as announced earlier by the Hockey Development Centre for Ontario's Under-17 Policy Committee.

Lakehead University located in Thunder Bay Ontario will be the venue for this year’s Provincial camp, which will take place from July 6-10 2011. The camp will feature 84 of the top 16-year-old hockey players in Ontario, identified from regional camps conducted throughout the province during April and May 2011. There will be player representation from each branch and division in Ontario with over 1,200 players participating in the regional identification camp process.

The goal of the provincial camp is to provide players with an intensive, high-calibre training opportunity as well as a positive learning experience, both on and off the ice. It also serves to facilitate the process of identifying players who will ultimately be selected to represent Team Ontario at the 2011/2012 World Hockey Challenge, being held in Winnipeg Manitoba, commencing on December 27, 2011.

The Ontario Under 17 Program is an integral component of Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence and is coordinated through the Hockey Development Centre for Ontario Under 17 Policy Committee on behalf of its member organizations. The Under-17 Program continues to provide high performance competition and development opportunities for players, coaches and trainers as well as identifying the elite athlete for future national programs.

Last season, 20 OHL Players led Team Ontario to a gold medal victory at the 2011 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Winnipeg, MB, with a 5-3 win over the United States.
