Sarnia, ON - With two games left on the season, the
Sarnia Pacers will either wrap up the season Sunday,
or be heading to the playoffs.
The
final two playoff spots are still up for grabs in
the Western Conference, as Sarnia battles with
London for the 8th spot.
London
currently sits with 14 points (7-11-0 record) and is
two points behind Wallaceburg. Sarnia sits with a
6-12-0 record and 10 points, and is currently in 4th
in the Far West division.
Sarnia's final two games of the season are against
Niagara on Saturday in Niagara (5-12-0), and then a
return to Sarnia for the final game of the season
against Welland (4-13-1).
With
Sarnia's latest two wins against Wallaceburg and
London, they took both season series against the
Devil teams, defeating London 3-1 in four match ups,
and defeating Wallaceburg 2-1-1 in four as well.
With a win in Owen Sound on Saturday, Wallaceburg
can clinch a playoff spot, leaving Sarnia needing
some help, along with victories on the weekend to
catch London for the final spot.
London
takes on Welland on Saturday and first place in the
Far West division leading Windsor on Sunday. Two
losses by London and a Pacer win puts Sarnia in the
playoffs, as does two Pacer wins and one London
loss.
Sarnia
will need a full team effort on the weekend to pull
off a playoff birth, as 11 players got into the
scoring act against Wallaceburg on Wednesday, with
team leaders Dan Charlton and Kevin Conroy only
accounting for two on Sarnia's 13 goals against the
Red Devils. Secondary scoring has been an issue for
Sarnia all season, and if all guns can fire on the
weekend, Sarnia could see their best record in three
seasons turn into a playoff birth.
Sarnia
has won their last two games, and were a goal shy of
sending a game against London to overtime. With the
Pacers playing some of their best Lacrosse now, a
final push at the end may be just enough for this
young team and crack the 8th seed and move into the
post season.
