Wallaceburg, ON - The Sarnia Pacers have won their
sixth of the season after a 13-8 victory over
Wallaceburg in junior B lacrosse action from
Wednesday night.
Sarnia
jumped out to the early lead with Mitch Doughty
getting the Pacers on the board 1:12 into the first.
Kyle Ferguson would add the second goal for Sarnia
four minutes later to give Sarnia a 2-0 lead. Reid
Miller would cut the lead to one with his mid period
goal, but Dan Gawne would put Sarnia back up by two
with his late first period goal.
In the
second period, Sarnia would dominate the scoreboard.
Despite giving up the first goal of the period to
Jordan Durston to bring the game back to one goal,
the Pacers would get goals from six different
scorers in the period. Dan Charlton got things
started with his 26th of the season, followed by Ben
Tamming on the powerplay. Chad Zonneville made it
6-2 and TJ Mara added his 12th of the season.
Brandan Burr and Lance Ross rounded out the six goal
period, as the Pacers took a 9-2 lead into the
third.
Conner
Smith made it 10-2 to start the period, as
Wallaceburg and Sarnia answered with back to back
goals, with Rob Pollock scoring for the Red Devils,
followed by Ross's second goal shorthanded. Clint
Lamarsh would score three goals in a row for
Wallaceburg to cut the lead to 12-6. Kevin Conroy
would score his first of the game, but Wallaceburg
would still press and score two more, but that would
be as close as they would get, as the Pacers took
the game 13-8.
Justin
Matthews made 40 saves in the game on 48 shots in
the win. Sarnia has defeated Wallaceburg twice this
season, going 2-1-1 against the Red Devils.
Sarnia
is now 6-12-0 on the season, their most wins in
three years. There are two points behind London for
the final playoff spot, in which Sarnia won the
season series 3-1 against the Blue Devils. Sarnia
next takes on Niagara who is also in the hunt for
the final playoff spot with a 5-12 record, and then
will take on Welland.
