Imperials drop another close battle Saturday night
at Norm Perry Park to the reigning National
Champions Sault Ste. Marie Steelers 28-7.
The game
started off on a great note as the Imperials #15
Deshawn Hayes ran back the opening kickoff 75 yards
to set up a throwing player by #9 Pat Wright
to #89 Ryan Lounsbury for the major.
Wright
ended the evening going 10 for 28 getting only 46
yards and 2 interceptions. Newly acquired Deshawn
Hayes had 11 carries for 51 yards plus ran back 3
kickoffs and 1 punt return for a total of 130 yards.
The
Sault's defence was having their way with Sarnia's
offensive line at times as they had 5 quarterback
sacks and 4 hurries and 5 batted balls.
"That
makes for a tough game on Pat", coach Rod Weed said.
The
Imperials defence came to play on Saturday night.
Ricky Gorton #22 lead the team with 7 tackles
closely followed by #54 Brian Shuter and #51 Chad
VanBarneveld with 5. Only 1 sack for the Imperials
was recorded by #79 Marchan Fiddick for an 8 yard
loss.
Sarnia
rarely was in the Sault's backfield with having only
1 additional hurry and 4 batted balls. Chad
VanBarneveld forced a fumble as well as recovered
one. #21 AJ Glover had the other fumble recovery.
Defensive Coordinator Ryan Straus said after the
game, "Our defence was decent tonight but we need to
know when to take a penalty, they played well, but
maybe a little too loose at times. Our defensive
line really had to get more pressure and that didn't
happen, it'll give is something to work on this week
at practice".
The
Imperials go right back at it next weekend as they
face the Ottawa Invaders @ Norm Perry Park kickoff
will be at 7pm.
