Alvinston, ON - On Sunday afternoon, the Alvinston
Indians were at home to cap off a home and home
series in the St. Thomas & District Major Fastball
League against the visiting Glencoe Astros.
Glencoe took advantage of early Alvinston miscues to
go out in front 2-0, scoring single runs in both the
first and second innings, off of Indians starter
Kyle Crawford. Both runs were unearned and the
Indians looked shaky. However, that soon changed,
when Jeff Ingram came to the plate for Alvinston,
and crushed a solo home-run to get the Indians close
in the third inning. The inning continued, and Tom
Jobson walked, Andy Triest sacrificed him to second,
and Jobson scored off an infield RBI bunt single by
Jamie Shields, to knot the game at 2's. Chris Drew
then walked to put two runners on again, and Ryan
Chapman singled to put the Indians up 3-2, scoring
Shields, and they never looked back the rest of the
way. Ingram would add his second home-run in the
fourth, and he added another two run home run to
force the mercy in the fifth inning, as he clubbed
three home runs on the day. Ryan Chapman also hit a
three run home-run in the fifth inning as well.
All in all the Indians clubbed four homers on the
day, in what turned out to be a 10-2 mercy. Jeff
Lyons had a pinch hit triple in the game a run, and
an RBI, while Chapman was 2/2 for the Indians on the
day, with a walk, 1 run, 1 home-run, and 4 RBI's.
Ingram was 3/3 for Alvinston, with three dingers,
three runs, and 4 RBI's. Shields recorded the other
RBI in the game. Kyle Crawford recorded the win,
pitching five innings for Alvinston, allowing 2
runs, both unearned, 3 hits, 1 walk, and 2
strikeouts.
The Indians are now 7-1 on the season in league
play, and 9-3 overall. The Indians will be busy this
week with an away game in Glanworth on Wednesday,
while they are also away in Fingal versus Shedden on
Thursday. They are off to the ISC Qualifier in
Springfield on the weekend, with their opening game
Saturday morning at 11:00am.
