Sarnia,
On – The 2011 Ontario Four's Lawn Bowling
Championship began Saturday at the Sarnia Lawn
Bowling Club, and after the first day of events,
Laura Ritchie, Elaine Clayton, Yvette Vanderpost,
and Jan McLean of the St. George district will take
on Peggy Dundas, Carol Finlayson, Pat Weissflog, and
Chris Pingle from the Midland district in the
women's final, while Jurgen Fessler, Larry McLellan,
James McLellan, and Chris Johnson from the St.
Mary's district and Herb Nesbitt, Hugh Branston,
Weston Nesbitt, and David Houtby from the Niagara
district will play in the men's goal final.
The Lawn
Bowling championship features 128 bowlers from 16
districts in the province.
The St.
George team started the day off defeating the
Hanover district team 16-8, followed by a 17-16
victory over the Burlington District and a 15-13
victory over the Toronto district to get into the
finals.
The
Midland team also won their three matches on
Saturday to get into the final, defeating the Ottawa
district 20-12, the London district 17-13 and the
Brampton district 18-7 to get into the finals match
with St. George.
On the
men's side, the St. Mary's team defeated the
Willowdale district 19-15, the London district 18-8
and the Kitchener district 13-12.
The
Niagara team defeated the Coburn district 23-1, the
Richmond Hill district 13-12 and the Thamesford
district 21-12 to get into the final.
The gold
medal games go Sunday morning, while the Silver
medal games will be completed in the afternoon.
